Why Us?

At Marble Arch Eye Centre, the health of your eyes is our number one priority.

Established since 1993 and with a database of over 21,000 patients and growing, there is vast experience in providing quality eye care. We have resident Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and Contact Lens Specialists to meet any condition that might be required.

Depending on the nature of your visit, we aim to cater the examination accordingly as no two eyes are alike. Unlike some multiple opticians, we have the flexibility of increasing the time of the examination should further testing be required.

We have spared no expense to obtain the latest technological equipment to aid with examination and diagnosis.

What to Expect?

Our eye examinations generally last about half an hour, however we will advise you if any additional tests are required, and how long these may take.

The routine eye exam generally consist of 2 parts; a sight test and an eye health check. The sight test involves checking the vision and finding the optimal lens prescription, for both distance and near, if any. The eye health check involves examination of the eye muscles, all the component of each eye (Cornea, Conjunctiva, lens, retina, etc) and eye pressures. Our specialists check for any potential eye diseases such as Glaucoma, Cataract, and Macular Degeneration to name a few. Also systemic conditions such as diabetes may be diagnosed, as the retina it the only place in the body that blood vessels can be observed.

Our specialist will always explain the results of the various assessments and you will be given every opportunity to ask any questions you may have. The recommendations given at the end of the eye examination will take into account factors such as your working environment, lifestyle and any leisure pursuits you have, so we can meet your visual needs in the best possible way.

Who Requires an Eye Examination?

It is recommended for all people to have an eye examination at least once every 2 years. However, certain age groups and circumstances require more frequent visits.

The National Guideline for the recommended intervals are:

1: Aged 15 years or below

every year

2: Aged 16 – 69 years

every 2 years

3: Aged 70 years and over

every year

4: Diabetic and Glaucoma patients

every year

5: Aged 40 years or over with an immediate relative with Glaucoma

every year

These are general guidelines, however the Specialist may advise shorter intervals if clinically required.

At any time after your appointment if you have any queries or questions about the eye examination and related issues, we would be most happy to advise you.

Contact Lens Exam

A Contact Lens Fitting is performed for first time wearers of contact lenses or for those wishing to change from their current lenses.

Before a Fitting is performed an optical prescription is required from a sight test. This can be done at our practice or we can obtain it from the practice the last checkup was performed. After this, the eye health is checked and certain measurements are taken and then the appropriate lenses are selected. Initially the lenses are inserted, then the vision and fitting of the lenses are checked. The specialist will then go on to teach the patient how to put the lenses on and take them off safely. Finally, some safety measures are discussed and the lenses are given to the patient on a trial basis.

After about 1 week, the Aftercare is performed. This is an opportunity to check how the lenses felt during this week, and whether there are any adverse effects that are occurring on the eyes. Then the decision is made either to prescribe the contact lenses or change them for a better fit.
